Villette by Bronte

I am trying to be more educated, sophisticated, superior seeming, all to naught. I cannot for the life of me get past one page of the famous Charlotte Bronte's Villette (I had never even heard of it it to begin with, before spotting it on my sisters dresser). Each pretentious page opens up a snorefest one after the other, so many of her lines are actually written in French! There are no translations when certain characters speak it, how can you possibly read this type of book?

The main character is Lucy, whose view of things I must put up with as this is a first person driven story. And geez, is this girl so boring; she is a teacher in a girls school, and is of the rigid composture. But look at me, I am still trying to ploddle my way thru it, every morn, I try to pick my way thru at least 2 pages. Then I sleep for the next two hours. An hour a page.

Maybe some of it will go into my brain! And I shall be considered erudite, and sophisicated! WooHoo!

UPDATE!!:: Apparently, if you can make it past page 180 (yeah, there's like 540 somethingish pgs) the story is actually there, and not quite as bad as first thought. My perserverance paid off, my tugging myself thru 180 pages of doo dah came soon enough into storyland. Lucy Snowe, most amazingly not only developed a personality BUT I was finding myself quite empathetic to her. The story is pretty heart tugging, I did find myself skipping paragraphs of haphazard poetic descriptions though. Lucy is quiet, but not shy, itelligent but NOT 'smart', meaning she troubles her way thru things like math, she is stronger than the other women in most aspects but she is also wont to the feminine 'emotions' sometimes as well. Confusing?

I guess I empathized with her because she was heartwrenched at having no friends. It made her weak to be alone, people she admired did not look at her in any way other than 'something on the side'. When she did find a friend, that too was wrenched from her, it ends sadly, her with a happy outlook for the rest of her life, and it cruely smashed and ended. All the bad natured people around her happy and content, she left smashed. So wrong. Charlotte Brontes father asked her to write a happy ending for her story, she having wanted her 'ending' from the very beggining of writing the book, created a 'poetic' paragraph at the end. Telling readers to take whatever they wanted from it--though when you read it, it is quite, quite, obvious. I wished it was happy after all the heartache.........ah well!

Women get beat for drinking....

A few weeks ago (I just found out) some Shri Ram Sena members ran into a Pub in India and tried to beat any girls there, just for being there.

Shri Ram Sena, means God's army. Or at least one gods, as the Hinduism belief system comprises of many. These guys have decided to be the deliverers of moral justice, whose moral justice? Why whatever they think is right or wrong. And apparently they think girls belong behind a stove, behind walls. They should not be drinking or even be seen outdoors with boys.

I really wonder how many of these 'army' guys go to Bollywood, (yeah, India named their movie industry Bollywood, urg) movies where women cavort in skimpy skimpy 'clothes'. I really think more than the 'outrage' these caveboys feel, it's the fact that they feel like they are doing something with their lives, that they belong in some group that does something, takes action. Whereas before they joined they were doing nothing but watching movies, Bollywood movies, with skimpy skimpy clothing.

On the other hand, of course there are those guys that feel the antiquated way to live would be the best and happiest. They are served on, by, well servants, who would'nt want that? Maybe the girls should have figured that out sooner, get together and whip them boys into the kitchen, for back massages, and whatever else they want....

I think I understand what some of them think, they feel that our society would be less degraded if people went back to the 'gentlemenly & womenly' ways of old. Morals, politeness, no girls giving themselves to easily, no boys trying to make them. But the thing is, why then do the women have to do all the 'work'? Why can't the men just stay inside and out of temptations path? Why not get the Ram Sena people targeting guys and getting them to stop their 'amoral' ways, why target the WOMEN only?!

Cauliflower Soup.....really

So I tried to make a creamy soup out of Cauliflower, who knew it to be possible, most certainly not I. I came upon this recipe in a food blog, 101 cookbooks, I think it was. Of course being me, described as a donkey by my father (I've been told I do things opposite of what I've been told, supposedly like donkey??), I can't follow recipes. It makes me cringe to go 'by the book', makes me feel rigid like some uptight school marm in neck high, black dresses with 50psi corsets. MAybe it is my brain, I think I can do things better---I can't. But I keep trying! Again like a donkey. Whatever.

Cauliflower soup --didn't taste bad actually, bit thick I made it though.

Splashes of olive oil, with minced garlic cloves (5), dried rosemary, crushed pepper, 1/2 ts cumin, and a spike of Chinese hot garlic/pepper sauce, kept over a warm stove for 10 min while I....

Chopped 1/2 cauliflower, 1 small potato, 2 stalks of celery, 1/2 onion, 1/2 cup bell peppers red and green.

I added the onions, let sautee for 10 minutes, then added everything else.

Added 1 veggie boulean cube with 2 cups water, let cook till soft. Cool, and blended. Then as needed kosher salt+lemon salt+black pepper.

People add cheddar and etc cheeses as well. I did'nt, but some cheddar mightv'e been good.

Nice spicy, healthy soup. Added coriander leaves as garnish. People add milk, but it was quite creamy in itself. I think I could have added the whole onion, and double the celery for more flavor. Keeping the salt at the end helped me not oversalt it.

LOTR Geekaziods Rejoice!

There is a new (actually old, since Tolkien died in 1973) Tolkien fantasy book. WooHoo!! Wait Wait. "The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun", is not actually written by Tolkien but, as I intereprete the news story, more of a reworking, translation type thing. But it does give you more access to Norse Mythologies. I think I've read somewhere that Lord of the Rings was also based on these stories, it didn't all just pop out of Tolkiens head, at least the idea for some of the characters. He did write LOTR, unlike Sigurd and Gudrun. So therefore, its all still good. The book will also have an intro written by Tolkien, and some notes from his son (but who cares about Tolkien Jr, really, no offense).

Shows going Stale...

As I was watching my latest sc-fi show, it occured to me that most shows seem to go 'stale' for me. There are quite few that after the first season or two excite me enough to run to the tv at the correct time and groan in real physical pain if I missed the first 30 seconds.

X-Files kept me stuck to the television until the final season with Mulder and Scully in it together. Unforatunatly, they kept the show going with Mr. Evil Terminator and Miss. So Gay (forum fans know that one...) even after Mulder departed for non-hollywood. As a personal point of ARGGGHHHH, hair pulling, after years of a cool sister arc including being cloned to just mention ONE, they dump it into the lap of a child abductor??!! No really??? What a stinkin pile of Dren.

If you have never watched EVERWOOD, the most wonderful show ever, you can thank some dumb bimbo at WB for shutting the show down in favor of some dumb bimbo show that got cancelled afer like 3 episodes anyway. Everwood had a different storyline every episode that didn't bore you, it dealt with 'reality' based storylines. If you watch WB shows, where every spoiled little teeny bopper female sleeps with /seduces every other teen bopper hearthrob boy, it gets old fast. Everwood may not have had hearthrobs, fashion trends, and party tips but it did have a feeling of comfort..... Holy Frell, am I like getting old? Ew.

Lost is a show that really keeps me on my toes, things just keep happening on that show. Even the main characters are game for something happening to them, dying etc........ It really manages to rope in sci-fi and fantasy but at such a small quiet level, that you mostly just consider the show to be drama or action. The storylines blend perfectly together to create wide story arcs and yet each individual ep has it's own action. Really must watch.

obama gives Wonder a concert??

President Obama is supposedly going to give Stevie Wonder a concert to honor him. Just wondering but this concert will come out of President Obamas pocket and not mine right? Cause it's not like anyone asked me? And really, is it the presidents job to honor singers and such or is his job something else? Just wondering....

Obama will be presenting Wonder with a Library of Congress award. These awards are for lifetime achievement in many different fields. Stevie Wonder certainly deserves an award for his musical contributions to the world, and just the fact that being blind and being able to do all this is amazing, I look for excuses not to do anything at all.

But the concert part just gave me a bit of 'um' since the nations deficit and money problems are the only thing people talk about, every penny DOES count. Think about it, if all these 'minor' expendatures were added together per year, they'd add up.

Chris Brown should NOT be forgiven

Chris Browns father has come out saying that his son is very remorsful, and very concerned about Rihanna, suuure, of course he is NOW. Now that he has been caught and put into public scrutiny, now that his multimillion dollar deals and contracts may be in jeapardy.

Chris Browns father apparently doesn't want the public to be unforgiving, he thinks 'we all trip, we all have our shortcomings'........wtf?? How is punching a girl with your fists and biting her like a rabid dog, a shortcoming?!!!

The dad went on and on about how Chris Brown loves people (yeah, they pay for his bling-bling), and how he will 'continue to be a good person' , wait, so he WAS a good person when he attacked a defenseless girl?? Violence against women should not be tolerated and not forgiven so quickly so that poor little Chrissy can get back into the studio and pump out more crap.

COMMUNITY SERVICE!!!!

Thundercats......HO!.........

I just saw a trailer for our most beloved of all cartoons, Thundercats. The trailer is a fake but boy is it a beaut! Brad Pitt, Chiana, and Mr. Wolverine himself spliced and painted to look like a real Hollywood trailer.....mmmmmmmm.

Can't wait for Hollywood to wake up and make the movie that will give me sweet sweet dreams for many months afterwards. Come On! Who doesn't dream themselves into Thundera? Become one of the Thundercats and fight the evil Mumra, SO awesome.

Okay, if you don't know what Thundercats is, it is an 80's cartoon about humanoid cats from another planet :) landing on third earth and fighting the evil Mumra and his henchmen. Lion-o, is the head, I'm not telling you guys which guys are which cats (duhrrrr), Cheetarah, Panthero (makes tech), Tigra, and wilykit and wilykat (no idea onto which cats they are based. Or for that matter they have a pet called Snarf, his kind does not exist on our Earth. Very kool cartoon, lots of storyline, much better than ALL of the idiot child retard cartoons they come up with these days...........remember HE-Man and She-ra? Sigh.

My fav anime's....

Ever since I was introduced to anime with Escaflowne, I was in love. I had never before seen "cartoons" with such great graphics, scenery, and deep, powerful, and interesting storylines. Escaflowne has both a movie and show out, the latter is what I speak about. If you are not into reading subtitled stuff, worry not. Escaflowne was in English, it actually aired on Fox, every Saturday morning. It is a complex storyline, surprising, and SHOCKING (sister, wtf?!? for those of you who get it), and funny.

I once thought I could never watch anything with subs, I was wrong. The first 5 minutes of an anime would annoy me, then before I knew it, I did'nt even realize the voices were foreign. Just got into the flow of reading. Same with Pans Labyrinth, talk about it below, somewhere, not anime, but beautiful movie.

Howls Moving Castle, is another great anime movie, based on a book by Diana Jones, only anime-fied. Sophie, a hat girl is cursed into a 90 year old woman and helps out a wizard in his moving castle with his majickal friends. Great one.

Akira, really good movie, bit old. From what I remember (saw it a while ago), about a boy with vast mental abilities, corrupt governement scientists, psychics, bike gangs, deep storyline. Good one.

Inuyasha the series is really good, though after a while the episodes started to get 'clone-y', meaning it seemed like they always discovered a monster, fought it, and went on their way. I still recomend watching it, at least till you personally get bored if at all. Amazing scenery, monsters, story ideas, I loved it. About a girl who meets a half demon half boy and must collect pieces of a crystal before the evil Naraku does. Lots of characters to enjoy.

Princess Mononoke, really good movie. It was actually one of the highest grossing films in Japan until Titanic came along, and pushed it down. movie is older, and about the fight between basically, nature and industrialization/forest killing. Good movie.

Spirited Away, is about a girl whose parents are turned into pigs by a witch, the girl goes to a fantasy land to get her parents back, makes friends, and help others. Good movie and I just found out, it BEAT yes BEAT Titanic in Japan. Won an Academy too.

GhostTown

I recently came upon a movie called Ghost Town, I had never heard of it before but decided to try it. Guess what? "What, What?" you ask. I actually liked it. It seemed to have a small indi movie feel to it, the stories pace was not what you would find in a 'regular' theatre though.

The story was about a dentist, an ornery one at that who 'dies' for like 2 minutes, wakes up and can see ghosts. Ghosts that won't leave him alone and chase him around the city, funny. This movie was not slapstick funny but rather 'good lines' funny. Things get interesting for him when he falls for one of the ghosts wives, then...... a totally unexpected ending. Seriously, you actually have to rewind the movie and watch it over again....

P.S The only character I recognized was Tea Leoni, wife of David Duchovny (Mulder!!!), and if you don't know who Mulder is, seriously, were you born on this planet??

Choco-late cows! Woo Hoo!!

So everybody probably knows by now how cow farts help the destabilization of our atmosphere--no really. Cow farts have methane in them which helps the rise of greehouse gases, which in turn contributes to our current world problem of global warming. For those of you nonbelievers (I know right, how can you NOT see the glaciers melting) just do some looky-looing online.

The amazing part, get ready.........here it comes...........scientists are developing green cows!!!
"That is SO cool" you say
"Yeah, it would be even cooler if they were really green" I reply
"Say, Wha--?" stammers a confused you.

Apparently the cows will be an eco 'green', meaning they will produce less methane than the real cows god/nature created. You will also be soon getting your skim milk from fake cows. Scientists have found a gene that can make lower fat milk squirt out of cows. Kewl.

One scientist in Mountebank, WI is on the verge of developing.........wait for it........chocolate COWS!!! MMMMMMM. These cows will be squirting what I consider to be the real liquid gold, chocolate milk of course! Apparently, this guy has found some gene that converts the butterfat of cows with cocoa bean supplement tabs fed to the cows, into choco-milk!! WooHOO! Hershey's is in talks with this guy......I wonder if they'll do strawberry or bananas?

moun⋅te⋅bank
 /ˈmaʊntəˌbæŋk/ –noun
1.a person who sells quack medicines, as from a platform in public places, attracting and influencing an audience by tricks, storytelling, etc.
2.any charlatan or quack.–verb (used without object)

Better late than never.....Pans Labyrinth

I just saw Pan's Labyrinth!! And yes those exclamation points are there for a reason.....it was a beautiful movie!! At first I was a bit trepidacious, it is a foreign film with subs after all. I'm not usually into those. But this film is a played out sortof like a fairy tale, but also sortof with lots of reality thrown in, hard to explain for me it is. It is quite bloody in parts, torture scenes, and a bit--just the oh so tiny bit goose bumpy. But in the end all I could say to describe it was...beautiful! It had made me want to find more movies from the guy who made this one. Not for kids, it's not a fairy tale (for kids), it is more about a young girl who is caught up in that type of magical world.

If Stephen King says so....

Apparently even Stephen King is not into Stephenie Meyers 'Twilight' books. In an interview he claimed that even though both J.K. Rowling and Stephenie write for kids, Meyers writing is just plain bad. I personally thought the same thing, I watched the movie which I like, and thought to try the book series since it so popular. I was amazed that someone even published it! It was so fragmented and baby-ish.

There are so many wonderful vampire books out there, "Interview with a Vampire" series for example. Now that series is some thought provoking reading, deep, and beautiful. Well I guess she just got lucky--her book passed thru whatever standards they have for publishing scripts, and then actually became popular. Although we all know why, puh-lease, perfectly sculptured vamps biting young girls? What teenage girl would'nt go gaga over that? Seems like if someone had beat Meyer to writing a teenage vamp story, it would have claimed the popularity she has. She just got popular because she did it first.....

P.S I did think it a tad bit mean, for a celebrity status guy like Stephen King to publicly ridicule Meyer. Should a famous guy keep his opinions to himself, because they can be spread so fast/far and turn the object into a public humiliation symbol? OR, is it unfair for them not to be able to give out their own opinions like other people? Hmmm.

I suggest.......

I suggest if you have a shred of dignity left within yourselves, you shall forgoe your $4 Starbucks Latte Frappiato, and fork over that money to the next donation box you see.

Sure. Fine. Whatever. If you don't want to donate to help save the rainforest, fine.
BUT
Geez, put down those $30 pair of shoes (you have 10 just like them in your closet), and fork over that money to a hungry child whose BONES you can see sticking out of his chest.

Hmm, shoes. hugry kid. Hmm. Shoes. Hungry Kid. SO HARD! Can't think!!

OKAY. FINE. For you Scrooges out there..............

(Trumpets Blow) You....yes you(!), can actually donate WITHOUT SPENDING A DIME!!!!
"No Way Dude!" you say.
"Yes. Yes. Dude!" I say.

"There are sites out there where you just click a link, and the websites advertisers donate money for you. No signing up, no giving your info. Just click the link.....and you're done."

Some hungry kid gets some food, and you did'nt even have to .......well you'll have to lift a finger.

Obviously if you can forgo the latte frappiato for ONE hour, you'll feed a kid for a day. Just send the money to the many many donation sites out there.

Or do the click a link thingy. Donate By Just Clicking

Michael Phelps.....does NOT need to apologize

Why did Michael Phelps feel the need to apologize for inhaling thru a bong?? Please, 80% of the US population has tried this stuff at some point in their lives. Second, why apologize to the public, the public, who is comprised of druggies, two-timers, rapists, drunks, liers, cheaters, etc?? Really, should'nt we all be apologizing to each other then? Why does a guy who has worked so hard to get where he is have to apologize for having some fun, it IS HIS LIFE still isn't it? Or has he become the publics whore?

AVATAR the MOVIE!!!!

Okay, so we fans of Avatar had a near miss with at least one casting call. Zuko was supposed to be played by Jesse McCartney?! Remember 'Summerland', or actually, do you really want the nightmares to start again? The boy acted as if he were on a Disney Channel show. I literally had gag fests when tht show came on.

His replacment for Zuko is apparently 'Slumdog Millionaire" boy Dev Patel. No comment on that one, I have yet to watch the movie. Crossing fingers, hope he can act. Zuko is a MAJOR role. MAJOR. MAJOR.

The director will be M. Night Shyamalan, let's hope he has at least watched some of the series. I hate when directors take what they like to call 'artistic license' with a beloved show/series, and ruin the very essense of what made it beloved in the first place.

The movie version of Hannah Montana will likely have Miley Cyrus holding an ak47, a couple of grenades, and an oozie, while she saves the President of the United States. No really it will.

Batman Strikes again....

So apparently, Christain Bale DOES have an anger problem. While on the set of Terminator Salvation, he cursed for four whole minutes at some poor Director of Photography guy for accidentally walking where he's not supposed to -- on set.

EVERYONE makes mistakes, what I didn't get was that not one person stood up to the grand and almighty Christan Bale to tell him he was out of line for yelling at a man as if he were a five year old kid! One guy tried to calm hime down, then backed off, why were they ALL scared of him??

Seriously, Christain Bale has already ruined Batman, now he is going for my other alltime favorite of Terminator. If the man can't keep his temper like the ungod human he is..................

P.S I did enjoy the last 2 Batman movies----BUT for the story, the scenes, and the other actors who made the movies what they were.
